Optimizing Your Job Posting and Interview Questions to Attract The Right Candidates

The hiring market in 2022 seems to be a roller coaster for many. Many businesses are feeling the pressure of finding the “right” employee. So why is this happening and what do we need to do to optimize our hiring process?

The job market is booming which has caused a situation of “too many jobs and not enough people”. It’s now more important than ever to understand who you need for your business and HOW to attract the right people.

You’re competing against more job vacancies than ever before. It’s time to get back down to the basics, the foundation of “hiring”.

Let’s start with your job ad. A great job description is the bread and butter for making a great hire. Here are a few tips to make your job ad work for you.

  • Be specific about expectations and core responsibilities. Make it clear to applicants what they absolutely need to have to be considered for this position.

  • Include information about your company vision and values. A top goal is to attract candidates who align with your values and purpose.

  • List out the core tasks of the role. Provide examples of what these duties might entail.

  • Speak to the candidates directly. Use words like “you” and “your” to show your human side.

Next, what types of questions are you asking during the interview process? For company culture fit, ask questions that relate to your core values. Include behavior-based questions that address soft skills.

Take a look below at some of the questions you can ask in the interview process to determine skills fit and values fit.

Values Fit Question Examples:

  • What do you enjoy most about working on a team?
